The beginning of ALCP at Pulpally, Kerala traces back to the time when the Bishop of Bathery, Cyril Mar Baselious visited Mammolshain. On this occasion Fr. Winfried explained to him about the new community. The Bishop was interested in the community and invited him to establish a house in his diocese. Hence a property was brought at Pulpally under the direction of the Bishop and at the guidance of Rev. Fr. Chacko Narimattom, who was then the parish priest at St. Georgi’s Malankara Church at Pulpally. In the year 1980, the community acquired 11 acers of land at Vellakettu about two kilometers from Pulpally town and by the side of the road Chettapalm via Pazhassiraja College. The land was acquired from Mr. Varkey Muttath.
The land with rubber cultivation then was taken care by Abraham, one of the two first Indian candidates of our community. Thereupon Fr. Joy Sebastian, Fr. Chinnaiah, Fr. Prasad all rendered there services here as regents. In the course of time better cash crops were like pepper, coffee etc were preferred to rubber.
Our contact with the Bishop of Bathery, that actualized our presence at Pulpally, now was asking ourselves to get jurisdiction in that diocese. However the diocese being in the Oriental Rite of Syro-Malankara and our community being founded in the Latin Rite the international presence, our superiors did not find it suitable to be under the Syro- Malankara Rite. Hence the next step was to look for the Latin Rite diocese. Wayanad, being under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of Latin Rite Diocese of Calicut our superiors sought the permission to start a formation house here. The Bishop, Most Rev. Maxwell Neronha, replied positively and granted us the permission to have a formation house and the preservation of the Holy Eucharist on 8th November 1987.
The construction of a formation house begun soon and in November 1991 it accommodated the first batch of candidates for the first year formation. By then only a few rooms were ready and other part was under construction. In 1995 the house was completed and Most Rev. Maxwell Neronha, the Bishop of Calicut blessed and inaugurated our chapel in May 1995. Meanwhile for a few years (2002-2004) the novices were also given their formation in this house. Now this house accommodates the first year candidates and looks after the formation.
